India emerged victorious in a dramatic Asia Cup 2025 final on Sunday, defeating Pakistan by five wickets in a tense contest marked by extraordinary performances and fierce rivalry.
Chasing a modest target of 147, India held its nerve to cross the finish line with two balls to spare. The hero of the night was young Tilak Varma, who produced a career-defining unbeaten 69 off 53 deliveries. His composed innings, supported by crucial partnerships with Sanju Samson (24) and Shivam Dube (33 off 22), anchored India’s run chase after an early collapse left the team struggling at 20 for three.
The final over added to the tension, with India needing 10 runs. Varma launched Haris Rauf for a towering six over mid-wicket before Rinku Singh sealed the win with a boundary, sparking jubilant celebrations among Indian fans.
Earlier, India’s bowlers orchestrated Pakistan’s downfall, bowling them out for 146 in 19.1 overs. Despite a strong opening stand of 84 between Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46), Pakistan’s batting line-up crumbled under relentless spin pressure. Kuldeep Yadav starred with 4/30, while Axar Patel (2/26) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/30) tightened the screws in the middle overs. Jasprit Bumrah (2/25) capped the innings with a fiery finish.
The victory was India’s third over Pakistan in the tournament, having already prevailed in both the group stage and Super 4 encounters. It also secured India’s second Asia Cup title in the T20 format, under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav and guidance of coach Gautam Gambhir.
The electrifying atmosphere was further intensified by off-field tensions and passionate crowds. Yet, the Indian team displayed composure and resilience, with Tilak Varma’s calm brilliance and Kuldeep Yadav’s incisive bowling defining the final.
India’s triumph reinforced its dominance in regional white-ball cricket and set the stage for renewed confidence ahead of upcoming global tournaments.
