A landmark step in enhancing public safety infrastructure was taken today as Peel Regional Police officially broke ground on the long-awaited redevelopment of the Sir Robert Peel Centre and Brampton’s 22 Division. This multi-year project promises to transform policing services for one of Canada’s fastest-growing regions.
Deputy Chief Lauren Jackson emphasized the importance of the initiative, noting:
“The redevelopment of the Sir Robert Peel Centre is a reflection of our commitment to evolving with the needs of our community. This facility will not only enhance how we deliver services, but also strengthen our ability to collaborate, innovate, and keep our growing region safe.”

Regional Councillor Rowena Santos also highlighted the project’s impact on Brampton residents:
“This redevelopment is a clear investment in the safety and well-being of our community. As Brampton continues to grow, residents deserve modern, reliable, and innovative public safety infrastructure. I am proud to support this project, which will help ensure families across Peel feel safer and more secure.”
- Phase 1 (2025–2029): Construction began September 8, 2025, with completion expected by late 2028 or early 2029. This phase includes a modernized facility equipped with a biometric-enabled Detainee Processing Unit and a state-of-the-art Forensic Identification Services lab.
- Phase 2 (2029–2033): Will add the new 22 Division, expanded Corporate Development spaces, and enhanced secure parking within a multi-storey infrastructure.
Peel Regional Police confirmed that all services will remain fully operational throughout construction, ensuring uninterrupted public safety and emergency response services. Critical operations such as the 9-1-1 Communications Centre will remain protected during the redevelopment.
As Brampton and Peel Region continue to grow rapidly, this redevelopment represents a once-in-a-generation investment in public safety. It ensures Peel Regional Police will have the technology, facilities, and resources needed to respond effectively to current and future challenges.
Local leaders emphasized that residents want their tax dollars directed toward projects that provide lasting impact. The Sir Robert Peel Centre Redevelopment delivers on that promise by strengthening community safety, protecting essential operations, and building a safer, stronger Peel Region.
