Wilson Staff Model X Crowned Best Golf Ball of 2025 Robot Test for Second Year in a Row

For the second year running, the Wilson Staff Model X has topped Today’s Golfer’s annual Golf Ball Robot Test, outperforming industry giants like Titleist, TaylorMade, Callaway, and Srixon in the most extensive head-to-head test to date.

The four-piece urethane tour-caliber ball secured its crown after rigorous robotic testing of 62 of the game’s most popular models across multiple swing speeds and shot types. Joining it on the podium was its softer sibling, the Wilson Staff Model, cementing Wilson’s resurgence as a serious contender in the premium golf ball market.

Despite its back-to-back test victories, the Wilson Staff Model X remains a rare sight in professional bags, overshadowed by the tour-dominant Titleist Pro V1 franchise. However, data from this year’s robot test suggests many amateur players could be shortchanging their performance by not experimenting with alternatives.

“Too often, golfers default to what they see on tour. Our robot testing proves there are outstanding models that don’t get the same spotlight but can transform your game,” the report concluded.

The 2025 test employed a $100,000 swing robot capable of delivering perfectly repeatable strikes at tour-level, club-level, and LPGA-level swing speeds. Data was collected using drivers, 7-irons, and wedges, providing a full picture of distance, spin, and control.

By aggregating performance across driving, approach play, and short game categories, Today’s Golfer identified the Wilson Staff Model X as the clear all-around winner, followed closely by the Wilson Staff Model, Srixon’s Z-Star Diamond, and Callaway’s Chrome Tour X.

The findings underscore a growing reality: while household names still dominate market share, golfers willing to experiment with lesser-used models may find equipment that better suits their game.
