Traffic Restrictions in Downtown Mississauga for Hazel McCallion LRT Work

Direct access to Absolute Avenue in Mississauga’s downtown core has been temporarily closed to traffic as crews continue construction on the $4.6-billion Hazel McCallion light-rail transit line. Project leaders confirmed that turning restrictions from both northbound and southbound Hurontario Street onto Absolute Avenue, across from Square One, will remain in place until September 17.

From Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., northbound motorists on Hurontario cannot turn right onto Absolute Avenue, while southbound drivers cannot turn left. Detours are available via Burnhamthorpe Road East, and no restrictions are planned for Sundays.

Metrolinx, the provincial agency overseeing the 22-kilometre Mississauga-to-Brampton route, said the temporary restrictions are needed so properties on Absolute Avenue can be connected to new electrical infrastructure. Officials warned that residents and businesses near the site should expect noise and vibration from construction equipment, while motorists may face delays.

Additional work is also causing temporary disruptions at other points along Hurontario Street, including Dundas Street near Hurontario, where telecommunications and electrical upgrades are set to continue until September 12.
