A handgun hidden in a parcel at Toronto Pearson Airport has led to a major firearms and drug trafficking bust, Peel Regional Police confirmed Friday.
The investigation began last November 2, when a Manitoba-bound package was flagged during a routine inspection at a parcel screening centre in Mississauga. Inside, officers discovered a Glock 19 9mm handgun and a prohibited magazine loaded with ammunition.
The parcel was immediately turned over to Peel Police’s Airport Division Criminal Investigations Bureau, triggering what authorities describe as a “lengthy investigation” to track down the sender.
After months of surveillance and forensic work, officers executed a search warrant at a Toronto residence, where they seized two additional illegal handguns, ammunition, and 1.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine. They also confiscated quantities of Percocet, methamphetamine, and cannabis.
On May 16, police arrested Jayden Edwards-Reid, 22, of Toronto. He now faces a long list of charges including firearms trafficking, unauthorized possession of firearms, and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.
Peel Police are encouraging anyone with additional information to contact investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 3133, or to leave an anonymous tip through Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
