In 1975, when “Jaws” was scaring moviegoers out of the water and the world was grooving to disco and burnt orange decor, a small neighbourhood library quietly opened its doors in west Mississauga. Now, 50 years later, Woodlands Library is celebrating its golden anniversary and inviting the community to join the party.
Located next to The Woodlands Secondary School in Erindale, the library has been a hub of learning and literacy for generations. This Saturday, June 7, the City of Mississauga is marking the milestone with a free public event filled with activities, music, and nostalgic fun for the whole family.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors will enjoy a lively afternoon that includes appearances from princesses and superheroes, retro story time in the garden, ‘70s-themed activities, disco karaoke, and fun giveaways. Kids can look forward to a giant inflatable slide, while the whole family can enjoy treats like lemonade and cotton candy. The celebration will also include a visit from Mississauga’s Animal Services team, a fire truck, and a meet-and-greet opportunity with Ward 6 Councillor Joe Horneck.
Organizers promise a festive atmosphere filled with throwback décor and interactive stations that pay tribute to the library’s origins in the 1970s. The event is being held at the library’s location: 3255 Erindale Station Rd., Mississauga.
