The City of Brampton is taking another bold step toward a greener future with the launch of the Brampton Business Climate Action Program, a new initiative aimed at helping local companies advance their sustainability goals while cutting costs. Developed by the City’s Economic Development Office in partnership with Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s Partners in Project Green, the program offers participating businesses free access to expert-led site assessments and tailored action plans to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
With only 10 spots available each year, the program represents a unique opportunity for Brampton businesses to strengthen their operations through practical, customized climate strategies. The City is fully funding the program for the first cohort, which will launch in 2025.
This initiative supports Brampton’s broader climate commitments while giving businesses a competitive edge in a fast-changing economic environment. As global markets increasingly reward sustainable practices, integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles is no longer just about regulatory compliance — it’s a key driver of economic resilience and growth.
Through detailed assessments and actionable recommendations, participating companies will be empowered to take meaningful steps toward sustainability that not only benefit their bottom line but also contribute to a cleaner, more energy-efficient Brampton. The program reflects the City’s vision of fostering a thriving, future-ready economy grounded in innovation and environmental leadership.
Mayor Patrick Brown emphasized that the program demonstrates Brampton’s commitment to supporting local businesses while advancing critical environmental goals. Regional Councillor Gurpartap Singh Toor, Chair of Economic Development, said the initiative transforms climate action into economic opportunity, equipping businesses to lower emissions and stay competitive. Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, Vice-Chair of Economic Development, highlighted the link between sustainability and innovation, stressing that investment in local businesses today ensures long-term community resilience.
Denise McClure, Director of Economic Development, noted that by offering expert assessments and customized strategies, the program will help businesses take climate action that makes operational and financial sense. John MacKenzie, Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, added that the program is a testament to the power of partnership in building a greener, more resilient economy from the ground up.
