A shocking investigation has uncovered how several Canadian women unknowingly married the same man, exposing major gaps in marriage registration systems across jurisdictions.
The report centres on Jason Washington, who is alleged to have held four active marriage certificates over roughly a decade, with at least three still valid at the same time in different parts of North America.
Several women, including two from British Columbia, say they were unaware of his existing marriages when they wed him. Many described similar patterns — quick proposals, intense relationships, and later troubling behaviour that led them to separate without completing divorce proceedings.
The situation came to light after one woman recognized Washington in a social media group, prompting others to connect and realize they had been married to the same person.
Despite bigamy being illegal in both Canada and the United States, the case highlights how multiple marriages were approved without detection. The women involved are now seeking annulments and questioning how authorities allowed the licences to be issued.
The investigation also revealed Washington has a criminal history in the U.S., including a manslaughter conviction, further intensifying concerns around oversight and public safety.
