Police Hunt for Escaped Patient Formerly Charged in Brampton Attack on Mother

Toronto Police are actively searching for a man who escaped from a mental health treatment facility on Monday morning. Prateek Mann, 33, was last seen around 10 a.m. near the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) at Queen Street and Ossington Avenue in downtown Toronto.

Mann, who had previously faced a charge of attempted murder in a high-profile Brampton case, was found not criminally responsible and committed to the facility following a 2021 incident in which his mother was stabbed in their home. The court later determined he was not criminally responsible for aggravated assault due to mental health reasons.

Described as 6 feet tall with an athletic build and weighing approximately 250 lbs, Mann is balding with short hair and a full black beard. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a black and white toque, a black shirt layered with a zippered sweater, black pants, and grey shoes with white soles.

Police are urging the public not to approach Mann if spotted and to call 911 immediately. Authorities are treating the matter as a public safety concern and have released his photo to assist with identification.

Anyone with information on Mann’s whereabouts is asked to contact Toronto Police at 416-808-1400 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.222tips.com.
