City of Brampton Extends Cybersecurity Deal to Power Next Wave of Innovation

The City of Brampton is strengthening its position as a national leader in cybersecurity with the renewal of a five-year, $5 million agreement with Toronto Metropolitan University to continue operating Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst in downtown Brampton. This partnership reflects the City’s deepening commitment to building a safer, smarter, and more secure digital landscape.

Through this renewed collaboration, the Catalyst will boost cybersecurity awareness, deliver specialized training, and support local businesses and community organizations. The initiative is set to further develop Brampton’s local talent, advance entrepreneurship, and drive meaningful community engagement in digital safety.

Located in the heart of the Brampton Innovation District, the Catalyst has firmly established itself as a foundational hub for cybersecurity in Canada, especially in sectors such as smart infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and automotive technology.

Since its inception in 2020, the Catalyst has made significant contributions to Canada’s cybersecurity ecosystem. It has supported 60 start-ups through its accelerator, trained over 50 organizations via its cyber range, and launched the RBC FinSec Incubator to help early-stage cyber and fintech firms grow. Its efforts have introduced over 1,000 girls, women, and non-binary individuals to cybersecurity careers, while its annual Catalyst Summit draws more than 200 industry professionals to Brampton each year. The initiative has also brought visibility to 195 Canadian cybersecurity companies through its Buy Canadian Cyber directory.

The renewed agreement not only continues this progress but emphasizes Brampton’s leadership in safeguarding digital infrastructure and building long-term resilience. City officials highlighted how the investment benefits the economy, creates high-value jobs, and keeps Brampton at the forefront of technological advancement.

The Catalyst, a flagship initiative of Toronto Metropolitan University, continues to grow its national footprint from Brampton, ensuring that Canadian innovation and security stay on the cutting edge. As Brampton’s population and business sector expand, this renewed investment in cybersecurity is a critical step in shaping a safe, successful, and sustainable future.
