Carassauga Festival of Cultures Returns to Mississauga for 41st Year

Mississauga’s iconic Carassauga Festival of Cultures is set to return later this month, celebrating its 41st year as one of Canada’s largest and most vibrant multicultural events.

Taking place on May 23 and 24, the festival will feature pavilions representing more than two dozen countries, offering visitors a rich blend of cultural performances, traditional food, music and art. Organized annually across multiple venues in Mississauga, the event is widely considered the unofficial kickoff to the city’s summer festival season.

Festival activities will run from noon to 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday, with organizers expecting tens of thousands of attendees. Visitors can explore cultures from around the world, including India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Ukraine, Portugal, Egypt, China and many more.

Major venues hosting the pavilions include the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, along with community centres and cultural hubs such as Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, the Canadian Coptic Centre and St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Admission is set at $15 during the festival weekend (or $10 in advance), while children under 12 can attend free. A festival passport also provides access to complimentary transportation via MiWay and dedicated shuttle buses connecting all locations.

Organizers say the event continues to grow in scale and popularity, evolving from just 10 pavilions in its inaugural 1986 edition to more than 20 pavilions and thousands of performers and volunteers in recent years.

With its celebration of diversity through food, music, dance and cultural expression, Carassauga remains a cornerstone event that reflects the multicultural spirit of the city and the wider region.
