Brampton Opens Nominations for 2025 Citizen Awards Honouring Local Athletes, Artists, Volunteers and Everyday Heroes

The City of Brampton has officially opened nominations for its 2025 Citizen Awards, inviting residents to recognize outstanding community members whose achievements and service made a meaningful impact over the past year. Nominations will remain open until January 9, 2026.

The annual awards celebrate excellence across sports, arts, community service and civic leadership. According to the city, recipients embody the values that make Brampton a strong, vibrant and connected community.

“Brampton’s greatest strength has always been its people,” Mayor Patrick Brown said. “Every day, residents give their time, talent and heart to help others — from our young athletes and emerging artists to our dedicated volunteers and community champions.”

Award Categories

  • Sports Achievement Award (Individual & Team): For athletes or teams who excelled at the provincial, national or international level.
  • Ken Giles Amateur Athlete of the Year: Presented with the Brampton Guardian, recognizing an amateur athlete whose dedication and sportsmanship stand out.
  • Arts Acclaim Award: Honours artists whose work has earned distinction locally or beyond.
  • Long-Term Service Award: For volunteers who have strengthened Brampton’s recreation, arts or social programs over many years.
  • Inspirational Award: Celebrates residents whose compassion and advocacy have made a significant difference.
  • Emergency Services Award of Valour: Selected by Brampton Fire & Emergency Services, Peel Regional Police and Peel Paramedics, recognizing heroic acts that saved lives.
  • Citizen of the Year Awards: Presented to a youth, adult and older adult demonstrating exceptional civic spirit and community engagement.
