Archit Grover, 36, from Brampton, was arrested this week at Pearson Airport upon his arrival from India, in connection with a notorious heist that saw $23 million in gold and cash stolen from the airport last year. The Peel Regional Police announced the arrest, marking a significant breakthrough in the case of the largest gold theft in Canadian history, which occurred on April 17, 2023.
Grover is charged with theft over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. He is one of nine suspects implicated in the heist, seven of whom are now in custody. After his arrest, Grover made his initial court appearance in Brampton.
The investigation has also revealed Grover’s alleged involvement in a gun-smuggling operation in Pennsylvania, USA, believed to be linked to the gold and cash heist. U.S. authorities have expressed interest in his extradition to face related charges.
Collaboration between the Peel police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has been crucial in advancing the investigation, which continues as authorities work to apprehend all individuals connected to the heist and the associated international crimes.
