$2.5M Boost for Brampton Health Care as Primont Homes Backs Second Hospital

Primont Homes has announced a major $2.5 million donation toward the construction of Brampton’s long-awaited second hospital, marking one of the most significant philanthropic contributions in the company’s 50-year history. The family-owned developer, known for building residential communities across the Greater Toronto Area, is now extending its commitment to strengthening critical health-care infrastructure in the city.

According to the William Osler Health System Foundation, the contribution represents a substantial increase from Primont’s earlier $200,000 pledge made during a fundraising event in August, reflecting a deepened commitment to supporting the future of health care in Brampton. Company president Joe Montesano emphasized that giving back to the community has always been a core value, noting that building homes also means supporting the essential services that make communities thrive.

The funding will support the transformation of Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness into the city’s second full-service hospital. Plans for the expansion include a new emergency department, enhanced outpatient services and increased capacity to meet the needs of Brampton’s rapidly growing population.

Officials with William Osler Health System confirmed that early construction work is already underway following a groundbreaking in March 2025, with site preparations and infrastructure improvements currently in progress. The next phase of development is being led by Bird Design-Build Construction Inc., which is working alongside Infrastructure Ontario and Osler to finalize design, scheduling and cost details. A firm completion timeline has not yet been established, as planning continues.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown welcomed the donation, highlighting the urgent need for expanded health-care services in a city where population growth has outpaced existing infrastructure. He noted that investments like this help ensure residents have access to high-quality care close to home.

Shelagh Barry, interim president and CEO of the Osler Foundation, described the contribution as an extraordinary act of generosity, adding that it reflects a shared vision for a stronger and healthier future for Brampton.
