RCMP Dismantles Major Synthetic Drug Laboratory Operating Along Ontario Highway

Sturgeon Falls, Ontario: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and several other law enforcement agencies, have dismantled a large clandestine synthetic drug laboratory operating from a property along the Trans-Canada Highway in Sturgeon Falls, approximately 90 kilometres east of Sudbury.

The investigation led police to execute multiple search warrants on June 18, 2026, resulting in the discovery of an active drug manufacturing operation producing illegal synthetic drugs. Officers seized approximately 42 kilograms of suspected MDMA (Ecstasy), seven kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, and a significant quantity of controlled precursor materials. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of $550,000.

Investigators also recovered nearly 540 kilograms of suspected precursor chemicals and catalysts stored inside three shipping containers. Among the hazardous substances seized were gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), commonly used in the production of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), and nitric acid, a chemical associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine and certain explosive materials. Police said the chemicals were stored under unsafe conditions, posing serious risks to public safety, nearby residents, and emergency responders.

RCMP Superintendent Chris McGillis described the operation as a significant blow to organized criminal activity in Ontario. He said dismantling the laboratory has removed dangerous drugs, hazardous chemicals, and production capabilities from circulation, helping to prevent substantial harm to communities. He also praised the strong cooperation among the various law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.

Seven individuals have been charged with offences related to the production and trafficking of illegal synthetic drugs. Those charged include Brian Luong (48) of Nobleton, Sebastian Toulouse (31) of Sturgeon Falls, Jason Brian Kaye (53) of Niagara Falls, Danika Landry (34) of Niagara Falls, Pierre-Yves Fleury (38) of Longueuil, Quebec, James Wen Liu (45) of Markham, and Hang Lin, who also faces charges in connection with the investigation.

Following their arrests, some of the accused were released under strict bail or undertaking conditions, while others remain in custody or are awaiting bail hearings.

The RCMP acknowledged the assistance of several partner agencies, including the Ontario Provincial Police, York Regional Police, Niagara Regional Police Service, the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal, whose coordinated efforts contributed to the successful dismantling of the illegal drug operation.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue efforts to combat organized crime and the production of dangerous synthetic drugs across Ontario.
