The City of Brampton is preparing to pay a lasting tribute to OPP Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, the young police officer who lost his life in the line of duty last week while serving and protecting the people of Ontario.
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown has announced plans to bring forward a motion at City Council to rename a city park in honour of Constable Bali, ensuring that his service, sacrifice, and dedication to public safety are remembered for generations to come.
Constable Bali, 29, was killed on June 9 while responding to an incident in the northern Ontario community of Hearst. According to the Ontario Provincial Police, he was struck by a vehicle during an active investigation involving a suspect who had reportedly fled from a hospital while being assessed under the Mental Health Act.
Mayor Brown described Bali as a courageous and dedicated public servant who embodied the highest values of policing and community service.
“Constable Bali dedicated his life to protecting others. He served with courage, professionalism, and integrity, and made the ultimate sacrifice while working to keep the public safe,” Brown said while announcing the proposed tribute.
Born in Naya Nangal, India, Constable Bali moved to Brampton with his family at a young age and grew up in the city he proudly called home. He later pursued a career in law enforcement, graduating from Fleming College’s Customs and Border Services program before joining the Ontario Provincial Police. He served with the OPP Dufferin Detachment for approximately two and a half years and was widely respected by colleagues and community members alike.
The decision to rename a park in his honour reflects the deep impact his loss has had on Brampton and the broader policing community. The tribute will serve as a permanent reminder of a young officer who chose a profession dedicated to helping others and who ultimately gave his life in the service of the public.
A funeral service for Constable Bali is scheduled to take place in Mississauga, where family members, fellow police officers, military personnel, dignitaries, and invited guests will gather to celebrate his life and honour his sacrifice. Arrangements have also been made for members of the public to view the funeral proceedings through designated viewing areas and a livestream.
The investigation into Bali’s death remains ongoing. An 18-year-old accused is facing several charges, including first-degree murder, in connection with the incident.
Constable Tarun Bali’s death has touched communities across Ontario and beyond. His story is one of dedication, service, and commitment to protecting others. While his life was tragically cut short, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of public servants and community members.
Through the renaming of a Brampton park, the city hopes to ensure that the memory of Constable Tarun Bali, a proud son of Brampton and a fallen hero, will never be forgotten.
May his service, sacrifice, and devotion to duty always be remembered.
