Barring a last-minute change, Rory McIlroy will not compete in this year’s RBC Canadian Open, ending a streak of five consecutive appearances that included memorable victories in 2019 and 2022.
Tournament officials confirmed the likely absence of the two-time champion during media day, noting that while his presence would have been a major draw, the strength of the field remains impressive. The event, set to be held at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, will feature 14 players ranked inside the world’s top 50 — one of the strongest fields in recent years.
Among those committed are top-ranked players such as Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa and rising talent Jacob Bridgeman, along with fan favourites including Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood, Max Homa and Brooks Koepka.
Canadian representation will also be strong, with players such as Corey Conners, Adam Hadwin, Mackenzie Hughes and Nick Taylor set to compete on home soil.
McIlroy’s absence is notable given his history with the tournament. His 2019 win at Hamilton Golf and Country Club marked a turning point for the event after its move to a June schedule, while his 2022 victory at St. George’s Golf and Country Club delivered one of the most electrifying finishes in recent memory.
Despite the disappointment, tournament organizers emphasized that the event’s growing reputation and competitive field continue to position it as one of the premier stops on the PGA Tour calendar. Officials also confirmed that TPC Toronto’s North Course will remain a key venue, hosting the tournament again in 2027 as part of its long-term role as the event’s anchor location.
While McIlroy’s return remains uncertain, the 2026 edition of the Canadian Open is still expected to deliver high-level competition and strong fan interest, showcasing both international stars and Canada’s top golfing talent.
