Tragedy in the Skies: RCMP Probe Death of Passenger on Amsterdam–L.A. Flight Diverted to Yellowknife

RCMP in the Northwest Territories have launched an investigation following the sudden death of a woman aboard an international flight that was forced to make an emergency landing in Yellowknife.

Authorities say they were alerted on Sunday morning after KLM Flight 601, travelling from Amsterdam to Los Angeles, was diverted to Yellowknife Airport when a passenger became unresponsive mid-flight.

The 34-year-old woman was transported to hospital after the plane landed but was later pronounced dead. Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding her death.

The Northwest Territories government, which operates the airport, referred inquiries to KLM. The Dutch airline has not yet responded to media questions.

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 confirms the aircraft’s original route between Amsterdam and Los Angeles before the unexpected diversion to Canada’s North.
