Carney Wraps Up Mexico Visit with Train Yard Tour, Talks Up Stronger North American Trade

Prime Minister Mark Carney spent his final morning in Mexico City visiting Canadian Pacific and Kansas City’s Ferrovalle train yard, capping a two-day trip focused on bolstering Canada’s partnership with Mexico ahead of high-stakes trilateral trade talks with the United States.

Carney’s stop at the rail hub was his only public event before departing for Ottawa by noon. The visit follows Thursday’s signing of a wide-ranging pact with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to deepen economic and security ties.

The new agreement was presented as a comprehensive strategic partnership, pledging joint efforts to expand infrastructure — including ports, rail lines, and energy corridors — while tackling organized crime and advancing environmental protections.

Both leaders stressed that the deal is meant to complement the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) rather than replace it. “With the individual reviews of CUSMA and our collective discussions, we will reinforce the strength of our economies and the fact that we are stronger together,” Carney said.
