A collaborative undercover investigation between the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in charges against a West Lincoln man for multiple child luring offences.
The investigation, which began in March, was conducted by the NRPS Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit in partnership with the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit. Officers engaged in online communication with a suspect who believed he was speaking with minors under the age of 16. According to police, the conversations were sexual in nature and intended to facilitate the commission of sexual offences.
As a result of the investigation, Johnathan Jeffrey Ahlstedt, 39, of West Lincoln, was arrested and is now facing the following charges:
- Two counts of Luring a Child via Telecommunication to Facilitate Sexual Interference
- Two counts of Luring a Child via Telecommunication to Facilitate Sexual Assault
Ahlstedt remains in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for April 4, 2025.
Law enforcement agencies continue to raise concerns about the ease with which predators use online platforms to engage with minors, create and distribute sexually explicit material, and exploit vulnerable individuals. Police urge parents and guardians to maintain open communication with their children about internet safety and to monitor their online activity.
Anyone with further information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
If you suspect a child is in danger or has been exploited online, contact your local police or report anonymously to Cybertip.ca.
