Woman Charged After Newborn Found Dead Inside Brampton Home

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after police say a newborn baby was found dead inside a Brampton home Sunday night.

Peel Regional Police were called to a residence near Kennedy Road North and Williams Parkway shortly before 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a deceased infant inside the home.

When officers arrived, they located the newborn inside the residence.

Acting Inspector Matthew Miller told reporters that a 23-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and charged with concealing the body of a child after birth.

Police said the woman was taken to receive medical attention following her arrest.

Investigators remain in the early stages of the case and are continuing to hold the scene as they gather evidence and determine the full circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.

Miller described the incident as deeply disturbing and said officers who responded to the call are being provided with mental health support because of the difficult nature of the investigation.

“Incidents of this nature are deeply disturbing,” Miller said. “The officers involved are also being provided with appropriate mental support as they continue to process the impact of this call.”

Police are appealing to anyone in the Region of Peel who may have information related to the incident to come forward.
