Woman Arrested for Hate-Motivated Assault on TTC Subway

Toronto, ON — Toronto Police have arrested an 18-year-old woman in connection with a hate-motivated assault onboard a TTC subway train earlier this month.

According to police, the incident took place around 1:15 a.m. on October 21 at Bloor-Yonge Station, where a woman allegedly directed homophobic slurs at a fellow passenger before spraying the victim with a noxious substance.

The suspect, identified as Valentina Ponte Diaz of Toronto, reportedly fled the scene following the assault. The victim sustained minor injuries, police confirmed.

Investigators say the suspect and victim were not known to each other.

Diaz has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and administering a noxious substance with intent.

She appeared at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre earlier today.
