A major winter storm is set to hit southern Ontario this afternoon, forcing airlines to cancel multiple flights at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga.
Forecasters warn that the storm could dump up to 40 cm of snow in parts of the province, with 20 to 25 cm expected at Pearson Airport by Thursday morning. Officials are preparing for what could be the biggest snowstorm of the season in the Greater Toronto Area.
“The GTA’s biggest snowstorm of the season is expected to start this evening, with 20-25 cm of snow forecasted to fall at the airport,” Pearson officials posted on X (formerly Twitter).
To manage the storm’s impact, traffic management initiatives will be in place throughout the night to ensure aircraft can land and take off safely. Airport crews will work continuously to clear runways, taxiways, and apron areas.
Despite these efforts, several flights have already been cancelled, and passengers traveling tonight or tomorrow could experience further delays and disruptions.
“If you’re flying today or tomorrow, please check the status of your flight with your airline,” Pearson advised travelers.
With snow accumulating rapidly, drivers and commuters are also urged to exercise caution as roads are expected to become hazardous.
Stay tuned for more updates on airport operations and travel conditions as the storm progresses.
