A 41-year-old Welland man has been arrested and charged with multiple child pornography-related offences following a police raid at a local residence. The investigation, led by the Niagara Regional Police Internet Child Exploitation Unit in collaboration with Brantford police, focused on the online sexual exploitation of children through a social media platform.
The probe began in January 2025 after authorities identified suspicious activity involving the creation, sharing, and storage of child sexual abuse material. On February 15, detectives executed a search warrant at a Welland home, seizing several digital devices capable of storing electronic data.
Jordan R. Gauthier, 41, of Welland, faces two counts of possessing child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography, and one count of making child pornography available. He was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on February 16 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
The Niagara Regional Police are part of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet. This initiative, supported by a grant from the Ministry of the Solicitor General, partners with police services across Ontario and international agencies to investigate and combat internet-based exploitation.
Authorities emphasized that offenders using anonymous online accounts to exploit children can still be identified and held accountable. They also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online activities and to utilize available resources to ensure their safety.
