Vicky Dhillon Returns to Politics, Runs for Liberals in Brampton East

The Ontario Liberal Party has nominated former Brampton city councillor Vicky Dhillon as its candidate for Brampton East in the upcoming provincial election on February 27. Dhillon, who represented Wards 9 and 10 from 2006 to 2014, joins current Councillor Martin Medeiros (Brampton Centre) as the second Liberal candidate with strong ties to Brampton’s municipal government.

Dhillon, who ran unsuccessfully for regional councillor in Wards 9 and 10 in 2018, criticized the Progressive Conservative government for failing to deliver on key issues such as a new hospital and toll-free Highway 407. In a Facebook post, he stated, “As a city councillor of Brampton East, I delivered my promises. Now it’s time to ask the Conservative, what has he done?”

He also accused Premier Doug Ford of calling an unnecessary election, calling it a waste of $188 million in taxpayer money. Dhillon emphasized his readiness to address the challenges created by the current government.

The Liberals are aiming to break the PC stronghold in Brampton, where all five ridings are currently held by the Progressive Conservatives. Dhillon’s local experience and focus on healthcare, infrastructure, and fiscal responsibility are expected to be central to his campaign.
