Southern Ontario is bracing for its first significant snowfall of the season, with up to 15 centimetres of snow possible in some areas this weekend.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a “significant weather outlook” for Friday through Sunday, warning that a snowy weather system could impact large parts of the province — including the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ottawa, and cottage country.
“Heads up, southern Ontario! An early season snowy weather event may be on its way,” the weather agency said on X (formerly Twitter). “The exact track of the low, amounts, and area is still uncertain.”
According to The Weather Network, meteorologists are closely monitoring conditions as the GTA could see its first measurable snowfall of the season on Sunday.
Farther north, a snowfall warning has already been issued for Timmins, Cochrane, and Iroquois Falls, where up to 15 cm of snow is expected by the end of Friday.
The agency cautioned that visibility may drop to near zero during periods of heavy snow.
“Travel along Highway 11 will likely be difficult due to accumulating snow and reduced visibility,” the warning noted. “Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate.”
Residents across southern Ontario are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for hazardous travel conditions as the early winter system moves through the region.
