Brampton will soon lose two of its Beer Store locations as the company continues to wind down operations across Ontario in response to the province’s changing alcohol marketplace.
The Beer Store has confirmed that its location at 374 Main Street North in Kingsport Plaza will shut down permanently on Nov. 16.
This comes on the heels of an earlier announcement that the 10585 Bramalea Road store — located at Sandalwood Parkway East and Bramalea Road — will close for good on Sept. 28.
The closures are part of a broader restructuring as beer sales continue to expand into supermarkets and convenience stores. Across Ontario, nearly 100 Beer Store locations have now been slated for closure.
“Selling beer and collecting empties in Ontario is changing as part of marketplace expansion,” said Ozzie Ahmed, vice president of retail at The Beer Store. “We know this is difficult news for consumers, recyclers and our employees, but these changes are necessary as we transition to the new system.”
Under the early implementation agreement with the province, The Beer Store will receive up to $225 million to support the transition and ensure bottle-return programs continue. At least 300 Beer Store locations are required to remain open until Dec. 31, 2025, after which all grocery stores selling alcohol must accept empties and refund deposits.
For Brampton beer drinkers, the latest closures mean fewer dedicated Beer Store outlets — but more options at supermarkets and convenience stores in the months ahead.
