Air Canada flight attendants have overwhelmingly voted in favour of a strike mandate, signaling growing frustration amid stalled contract negotiations. The Air Canada component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that 99.7 per cent of members supported the strike mandate, which empowers the union to call a work stoppage if deemed necessary.
While the mandate does not automatically trigger a strike, it significantly strengthens the union’s position at the bargaining table. The vote began on July 28 and concluded Tuesday, shortly after conciliation talks between the union and the airline ended without a deal.
Negotiations between Air Canada and CUPE have been ongoing since the beginning of the year, but progress has stalled, prompting union leaders to escalate pressure for improved contract terms.
