President-elect Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Tom Homan, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as “border czar” in his forthcoming administration. Trump shared the news on his Truth Social platform, stating, “I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders.”
In his role, Homan will be responsible for overseeing the southern and northern borders, as well as maritime and aviation security. A central part of his mandate includes leading Trump’s commitment to launch the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. Trump expressed confidence in Homan, declaring, “I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long-awaited job.”
A Humane but Extensive Operation, Says Homan
In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Homan reassured that the deportation efforts would be carried out in a targeted and humane manner. “The men and women of ICE are highly skilled. We will conduct this operation professionally and effectively,” he said, noting that they would focus on individuals already identified by ICE.
Homan has previously expressed strong views on border security. Speaking at the National Conservatism Conference earlier this year, he hinted at his plans, saying, “If you’re here illegally, you better be looking over your shoulder.” He committed to leading what he called “the biggest deportation operation this country’s ever seen.”
This role as border czar does not require Senate confirmation, allowing Homan to begin his duties swiftly as Trump’s administration takes office.
