A routine traffic stop in Brampton turned into a major firearms bust when police discovered an illegal handgun, leading to multiple charges against a 21-year-old man.
Peel Regional Police say officers pulled over a vehicle on Sunday near Airport Road and Braydon Boulevard during a Liquor Licence Act investigation. What started as a check for open liquor quickly escalated when officers uncovered a prohibited Girsan 9mm handgun inside the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Satnam Singh of Brampton, was arrested on the spot. He now faces a string of serious charges, including possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage, tampering with a serial number, and being an occupant in a vehicle knowing a firearm was present. He also faces a charge for having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.
Singh appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for a bail hearing following his arrest.
