Toronto’s Downtown to Transform Into a Thai Street Festival This September

For one weekend only, the heart of Toronto will feel like Bangkok.

Thai Fest Canada is set to take over Sankofa Square (formerly Yonge-Dundas Square) on September 20 and 21, bringing the sights, sounds, and flavours of Thailand to the city’s downtown core. The all-ages event is free to attend and promises an immersive cultural experience.

Festival-goers can expect more than 40 street food vendors serving authentic Thai dishes, alongside Thai-owned businesses offering everything from traditional crafts to massage services. Cultural performances, art showcases, and live demonstrations — including Som Tum (papaya salad) cooking and spicy food challenges — will add to the festive atmosphere.

“Thailand is too small for all its culture. So we’re sharing the rest with Canada,” organizers said.

Launched in Vancouver in 2024, where it drew more than 5,000 attendees, Thai Fest is now making its Toronto debut. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day, filling Sankofa Square with vibrant energy, mouthwatering aromas, and a cultural celebration that organizers say will “make you feel like you just landed in Thailand.”
