Toronto, ON – As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026 continues, Toronto is set to welcome a massive wave of international fans and tourism revenue. With the city slated to host several high-profile matches, including a knockout-stage game, projections show over $240 million in gross domestic product (GDP) will be generated for the Greater Toronto Area during the tournament period.
A key contributor to this economic boom is Airbnb’s official partnership with FIFA, announced today, which will help accommodate thousands of international guests in Toronto and beyond.
“The World Cup brings the world together — and so do we,” said Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder and CEO. “Airbnb is proud to partner with FIFA to offer fans once-in-a-lifetime experiences during the tournaments—while welcoming hundreds of thousands of guests during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and driving meaningful economic impact for local communities.”
The event is also expected to support nearly 1,400 full-time jobs in Toronto, benefiting the city’s hospitality, tourism, retail, and transportation sectors.
Meanwhile, Vancouver, the only other Canadian city hosting World Cup matches, is projected to surpass Toronto in GDP impact, with a forecast of $297 million. Together, the two cities are expected to generate $540 million in national GDP, welcoming an estimated 61,000 guests across Canada throughout the summer of 2026.
With Airbnb stepping in as a key housing provider, the city is preparing for an unforgettable experience for fans and residents alike. The FIFA World Cup 2026 is shaping up to be not only the largest tournament in history but also a landmark moment for Canada’s tourism and hospitality industry.
