Toronto Pearson Airport Resumes Normal Operations After Delta Plane Crash

Toronto Pearson Airport has returned to normal operations nearly a week after a Delta Air Lines crash landing that sent 21 people to the hospital and caused significant travel disruptions at Canada’s busiest airport.

According to an airport spokesperson, the runway where the crash occurred last Monday has reopened, while a second affected runway is undergoing final cleanup and is expected to be operational soon.

As of 9 a.m., the airport reported that one percent of departing flights and two percent of arriving flights had been canceled by airlines—figures within the normal range.

All 76 passengers and four crew members aboard the aircraft survived after the plane flipped over, skidded on the tarmac, and burst into flames. Those hospitalized have since been released.

Delta Air Lines has offered US$30,000 in compensation to each passenger, stating that the payment comes with “no strings attached.” Meanwhile, at least two lawsuits have been filed in connection with the incident.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
