City crews have removed more than 72,000 tonnes of snow from Toronto streets, sidewalks, and bike lanes since Wednesday, following two major February snowstorms.
According to the latest winter operations update, as of 10 a.m. Friday, crews have cleared:
✔ 101 km of roadways
✔ 11 km of bike lanes
✔ 18 km of sidewalks
Additionally, 3,135 truckloads of snow have been transported to designated storage sites since cleanup efforts began.
The city is focusing snow removal efforts on high-traffic and essential areas, including:
- Main streets with transit routes
- Hospitals and emergency service stations
- Sidewalks and school bus loading zones
- Roads and bridge decks with limited snow storage capacity
To minimize congestion, major street snow removal is scheduled during evenings and overnight hours. While significant progress has been made, officials estimate that full cleanup will take up to three weeks.
Residents are reminded that parking on designated snow routes, including all streetcar routes, is prohibited. Vehicles parked in these areas or where temporary “No Parking” signs are posted will be towed at the owner’s expense and subject to a fine of up to $200.
