The Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto is facing a hefty $350,000 fine from Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) following an unauthorized and chaotic after-hours party that erupted on its gaming floor. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of September 24th, followed an electronic dance music (EDM) concert described by the AGCO as having “widespread intoxication, disorderly behaviour,” and numerous disturbances.
According to the AGCO, the casino’s management approved an unscheduled request from a performing artist to host an after-party on the casino floor with over 400 guests. This decision was made, the commission alleges, without any prior risk assessment or adequate planning.
The concert itself, held in the theatre adjacent to the casino, reportedly saw a concerning number of incidents, including alleged assaults, drug overdoses, and acts of public indecency. When the after-party spilled onto the gaming floor, casino security reportedly lost control, with witnesses observing an individual climbing onto slot machines.
The AGCO’s penalty specifically targets the casino’s “critical failures” in several areas: reporting incidents, employee training, and effectively managing disturbances. This significant fine underscores the regulator’s commitment to ensuring licensed establishments maintain strict control and adherence to safety and operational standards.
