Toronto-Area Hospitals Welcome First Babies of 2026

TORONTO — Hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area rang in 2026 by welcoming some of the region’s first newborns just minutes after the clock struck midnight.

A Brampton couple, Jasveer Kaur and Jaswinder Singh Dhaliwal, welcomed their son at exactly 12:00 a.m., making him among the very first babies born in the GTA this year. The infant weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces and was delivered at William Osler Health System’s Brampton Civic Hospital.

In a statement, the hospital network congratulated the family and others celebrating new arrivals at the start of the year. “Osler extends its best wishes and congratulations to the new parents and their family, and to all the families who are welcoming new babies at this special time,” the release said.

Just one minute later, another Brampton family marked the new year with the birth of their son at Mackenzie Health’s Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Baby James was born at 12:01 a.m., weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces, to parents Stephanie and Brudon.

Another Brampton couple, Manveer Sidhu and Dharminder Singh Swagh, welcomed a baby boy at 12:28 a.m. Their son, weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces, was delivered at Etobicoke General Hospital.

The early arrivals brought joy to families and health-care teams alike, marking a hopeful beginning to 2026 across Toronto-area hospitals.
