ST. CATHARINES — Three people have been charged with attempted murder after a woman was deliberately set on fire while she slept in her Niagara apartment earlier this month, police say.
Emergency crews were called to an apartment near Vine Street and Scott Street around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, where officers found a woman suffering from severe burns to her upper body and face. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Detectives allege the victim was deliberately targeted by three people she knew, who broke into her apartment and used an accelerant to ignite the fire while she was asleep.
Two suspects were arrested on Aug. 18:
- Chassidy Archer, 25, of St. Catharines, charged with attempted murder and break, enter and commit an indictable offence.
- Moises Medeiros, 30, of St. Catharines, charged with attempted murder, break, enter and commit an indictable offence, carrying a concealed weapon, and failing to comply with a probation order.
A third suspect, Rebecca Daigneault, 37, of St. Catharines, was arrested on Aug. 25 and faces charges of attempted murder, break, enter and commit an indictable offence, and failing to comply with a probation order.
The investigation remains ongoing. Niagara Regional Police are asking anyone with information to call 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009610. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Niagara at 1-800-222-8477, with cash rewards available for information leading to an arrest.
