Peel Regional Police have announced the arrest of three men following a series of related protests that took place on November 3, 2024, in Brampton and Mississauga. The demonstrations, which turned confrontational, involved altercations between protestors and worshippers at multiple places of worship.
The initial protest occurred at approximately 12:00 p.m. near The Gore Road in Brampton, prompting police to respond to a trespassing complaint. Shortly afterward, demonstrators moved to two additional locations in Mississauga: Goreway Drive and Etude Drive, followed by another place of worship near Airport Road and Drew Road. Despite being in different areas, the protests appeared to be connected, leading to several heated incidents.
Peel police confirmed the arrests and charges of three individuals:
- Dilpreet Singh Bouns, 43, of Mississauga, has been charged with causing disturbance and assaulting a peace officer.
- Vikas, 23, of Brampton, faces charges of assault with a weapon.
- Amritpal Singh, 31, of Mississauga, is charged with mischief over $5,000.
A fourth person was detained on an unrelated outstanding warrant and later released.
During the protests, a Peel Regional Police officer was treated for minor injuries at a hospital. Thankfully, no other physical injuries were reported.
Peel Regional Police reaffirm their dedication to protecting individuals’ rights to protest peacefully under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. However, they stress that violence, threats, or acts of vandalism will not be tolerated. The police also thanked those who maintained peaceful conduct during the demonstrations.
Authorities are encouraging anyone who captured video footage of the protests to share it with investigators through a community submission link provided on the Peel Regional Police website. Additionally, individuals with information can reach out to either 12 Division in Mississauga or 21 Division in Brampton or submit tips anonymously via Peel Crime Stoppers.
