Ottawa, ON – Thousands of vehicles across Canada are being recalled due to manufacturing defects that could increase the risk of crashes, according to new notices issued by Transport Canada this week. The recalls affect select Kia K5, Kia Telluride, and Mercedes-Benz B-Class models.
The largest of the three recalls involves 8,497 Kia Telluride SUVs from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 model years. Transport Canada reports that exterior trim pieces located below the windows on each door may not be securely attached. The faceplates could detach from the vehicle while in motion, potentially becoming road hazards for other drivers.
Kia Canada has committed to notifying affected owners by mail and will provide instructions to bring their vehicles to dealerships for a free replacement of the exterior trim on each door.
A separate recall has been issued for 1,032 Kia K5 vehicles from the 2023 and 2024 model years. This issue also involves loose trim—specifically the exterior C-pillar trims, which may separate from the vehicle while driving. Like the Telluride issue, this defect poses a significant crash risk to other road users.
Kia will also notify K5 owners by mail and direct them to authorized dealerships for the necessary repairs.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz has issued a software-related recall for 266 B-Class vehicles manufactured in 2018 and 2019. The issue involves a malfunction in the rearview camera system, where a portion of the camera image may be obstructed. Under Canadian safety regulations, the full rearview must be visible when the vehicle is in reverse. The blocked image could reduce driver visibility and increase the risk of an accident while backing up.
Mercedes-Benz Canada will contact affected owners and instruct them on when and how to visit a dealership for a software inspection and update, if required.
