Telus has announced a new round of employee buyout offers, marking the second wave of voluntary severance packages this month as the company continues to transition towards self-serve solutions.
The latest round of “generous” buyout packages has been offered to approximately 560 employees nationwide, according to the United Steelworkers union, which has raised concerns about service reductions and outsourcing of jobs.
Telus spokesperson Catherine Leclerc emphasized that it is standard practice for the company to extend buyout offers to a broad range of employees, but anticipates that only a small percentage will accept them. She also noted that Telus may limit the number of departures to maintain operational stability.
The latest announcement follows a previous round of voluntary severance packages offered earlier this month to 545 employees across multiple departments.
The United Steelworkers union has condemned the move, arguing that Telus is prioritizing cost-cutting over service quality and outsourcing jobs overseas.
As Telus continues to invest in digital transformation and self-serve options, the company maintains that service improvements and operational efficiency remain top priorities.
