Technical Glitch Causes American Airlines Flight Delays at Toronto Pearson Airport Ahead of Christmas

A technical issue briefly grounded American Airlines flights departing from Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga and across North America on Tuesday morning, causing widespread delays during the busy holiday season.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a ground stop for all American Airlines flights after the airline reported a system malfunction, according to multiple sources.

The issue was reported early Tuesday, with the airline acknowledging the problem in a social media post at 6:40 AM:

“We’re currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights,” the airline shared on X (formerly Twitter). “Your safety is our utmost priority. Once this is rectified, we’ll have you safely on your way to your destination.”

By approximately 8:00 AM, the technical glitch had reportedly been resolved, though disruptions were expected to ripple through the day’s schedule.

Toronto Pearson Airport officials confirmed the delays and advised passengers to plan accordingly.

“An American Airlines technical issue briefly impacted its flights this morning,” Pearson Airport posted on X. “The system is back up, but passengers flying with American Airlines might see some impacts throughout the day.”

The airport’s online departure board reflected delays for several American Airlines flights throughout Tuesday morning.

The disruption added stress to one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, with passengers advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
