In a bizarre and bold overnight burglary, two thieves broke into a Richmond, B.C., bakery—then returned 40 minutes later for more.
Staff at Daan Go Cake Lab are still stunned after surveillance footage revealed two men entering the shop in the early hours of Monday morning. One of the intruders, cigarette in hand, casually rummaged through drawers and display shelves, making off with cash, iPads, and even birthday cake toppers, candles, and a package of Chips Ahoy cookies on their way out.
But the heist didn’t end there.
Roughly 40 minutes later, the same two men returned, this time appearing even more relaxed. “They were in no rush,” said Nasser Faleh, the store’s manager and head baker. “It was like they were on a shopping spree.”
Security video shows one of the thieves leisurely browsing different chocolates, even stopping to read ingredient labels before selecting a large tub of cocoa butter—an odd choice, considering it’s inedible on its own. “He just chose the cocoa butter, which you can’t really eat on its own,” Faleh added with a chuckle.
In their second round, the burglars helped themselves to more cash, a Bluetooth speaker, and an employee’s jacket, bringing the total value of stolen goods and money to an estimated $10,000.
The RCMP confirmed that an investigation is underway. Clear surveillance images taken earlier in the day show two men loitering near the store, whom the owners believe to be the same individuals behind the nighttime theft.
While Daan Go Cake Lab is known for its creative pastries, this surreal double burglary has left staff with more confusion than crumbs.
