Canadian swimming prodigy Summer McIntosh continues to redefine excellence in the pool, breaking her own world record in the 400-metre individual medley at the Canadian Swimming Trials. The 18-year-old from Toronto clocked an astonishing 4:23.65, surpassing the previous record of 4:24.38 she had set just last year during the Olympic trials in Toronto.
This marks her third world record at this year’s trials. McIntosh has already stunned the swimming world by setting new global marks in the 200m individual medley and 400m freestyle earlier this week.
Her dominance didn’t stop there—McIntosh also crushed her own Canadian records in the 800m freestyle, finishing in 8:05.07, and the 200m butterfly, in which she also currently holds the world record.
The latest feat adds to her growing legacy. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, McIntosh made history by becoming the first Canadian ever to win three gold medals at a single Olympic Games, along with one silver, cementing her status as Canada’s brightest swimming star.
“Summer McIntosh is not just rewriting Canadian swimming history—she is reshaping the future of international swimming,” said a Swimming Canada official. “Her talent, discipline, and fearless approach to racing continue to inspire the nation.”
Already a global champion, McIntosh has also been recognized as Athlete of the Year at the World Short Course Championships held in Budapest in December 2024.
As she continues her trailblazing journey, the entire country watches with pride and anticipation for what this young superstar will conquer next.
