Sudbury Rises to Second Place in Orkin Canada’s Annual ‘Bed Buggiest’ City Rankings”

According to pest-control company Orkin Canada, Sudbury has seen an increase in its bed bug infestation compared to last year, positioning the city at No. 2 in their annual rankings of the “bed buggiest” Canadian cities. This marks a one-spot climb from Sudbury’s previous ranking at No. 3.

For the seventh consecutive year, Toronto retains the top spot, while Vancouver has dropped to No. 6 from its previous position at No. 2.

The complete rankings for this year are as follows:

  1. Toronto
  2. Sudbury
  3. Oshawa
  4. Hamilton
  5. Ottawa
  6. Vancouver
  7. Winnipeg
  8. St. John’s
  9. Sault Ste. Marie
  10. Scarborough

Dr. Alice Sinia, an entomologist at Orkin Canada, cautioned Canadians to remain vigilant against bed bugs, especially with the resurgence of travel to pre-pandemic levels. Bed bugs, known for their exceptional ability to hitchhike undetected, can easily travel from one place to another by clinging to clothing, luggage, and furniture. They can conceal themselves in various items such as baseboards, electronics, bedding, wallpaper, and sofas.

Orkin Canada compiles its bed bug rankings based on the number of commercial and residential bed bug treatments conducted by the company in 2023.
