Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South and North American Director of the UNITE Parliamentarians Network for Global Health, concluded a productive official trip to the United Nations High Level Meeting on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The meeting was concise and action-oriented, with important commitments made by global leaders.
In her presentation, MP Sidhu highlighted Canada’s priorities and commitments in the fight against AMR. “Health Canada sees AMR as a priority, and we are developing a pan-Canadian action plan involving partners from human, animal, plant and crop, environmental, and health sectors,” said Sidhu.
She emphasized the importance of involving communities and parliamentarians in raising awareness about AMR. “In my presentation to our global partners, I stressed the need for community and parliamentary engagement in our efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance,” added Sidhu.
The meeting underscored the global urgency to address AMR and the critical role of international cooperation. Sidhu’s participation and Canada’s commitment were well-received by the attending dignitaries and stakeholders.
