A Vaughan woman has been sentenced in connection with a violent 2019 home invasion that left a 60-year-old homeowner with life-altering injuries and a community deeply shaken. Samantha Faryadpoor, now 27, pleaded guilty and was sentenced at a Newmarket court to three years and 10 months in prison for her role in the December 11 attack, which occurred just weeks before Christmas.
According to court documents, the victim answered a knock at the door around 1:15 p.m. to find then 21-year-old Faryadpoor standing outside. As soon as the door opened, a male accomplice jumped out from hiding and punched the woman in the face, forcing his way into her Thornhill home.
What followed was a brutal robbery. The male assailant demanded to know the location of a safe. When the woman said she didn’t have one, he began punching her repeatedly in the face. While Faryadpoor searched the home for money, she was heard on the phone with someone urging her to “get the money.” She later claimed she didn’t witness the beating.
The violence escalated when the woman was dragged into the bathroom and beaten with a gun. Court documents indicate that Faryadpoor eventually intervened, telling the attacker to stop, fearing it would kill the woman. The pair fled the home with less than $1,000.
The homeowner was left with devastating injuries: a broken jaw, nose, fractured orbital bones, a broken finger, and ankle. She was hospitalized, had to relearn how to walk, and continues to suffer from severe headaches and dizziness. The emotional toll also forced the woman and her husband to move from their home.
Justice Michelle Fuerst, who handed down the sentence, described the attack as a “brazen and terrifying violation” of a person’s sanctuary. She noted the planning, the extent of the violence, and the emotional destruction left in its wake, stating the robbery was driven by “pure greed” and targeted an innocent member of the community.
Faryadpoor’s age at the time of the attack and her guilty plea were considered mitigating factors. After credit for pre-sentence custody, she will serve an additional 15 and a half months, followed by two years of probation. She was also handed a weapons ban, a DNA order, and a non-communication order with the victim.
Charges against two other men originally implicated in the case—Reeke Ellis and Jamel Lewinson—were withdrawn in 2021 and 2022.
