Brampton is set to welcome another towering Hindu statue, this time a 54-foot depiction of Shivji, also known as Lord Shiva. The monument, which has been under construction for two years, is being installed at the Bhavani Shankar Mandir on Nexus Avenue and will be officially unveiled on September 6.
The project is led by renowned artist Naresh Kumar Kumawat, who has created religious statues in more than 80 countries. Kumawat is also behind the 55-foot Hanuman statue at Sabha Mandir in Brampton and the newly revealed 51-foot Rama statue in Mississauga earlier this month.
Videos circulating on social media show the Shivji statue already assembled in multiple pieces, with final detailing still underway. The statue features Lord Shiva with blue skin, a staff in hand, and a snake draped around his neck — traditional iconography of one of Hinduism’s most revered deities.
This latest addition continues a trend of monumental Hindu statues in the GTA, though it comes as Brampton city officials review bylaws regarding the size and height of statues and monuments.
The unveiling ceremony at Bhavani Shankar Mandir is expected to draw large crowds from across the region, reflecting the growing visibility of Hindu cultural landmarks in the city.
