The Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), has announced a significant investment of $3.4 million to bolster the life sciences sector in Kingston. This funding will be utilized to develop a new wet laboratory at Providence Care Hospital, providing specialized facilities for life sciences companies to conduct research and commercialize their innovations locally.
The investment is being delivered through the Kingston Economic Development Corporation, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering made-in-Canada solutions and strengthening local economies. By expanding specialized lab spaces, this initiative will support the growth of life sciences companies, enabling them to advance their research and bring innovative products to market more efficiently.

Ruby Sahota, Minister of Minister of Democratic Institutions, highlighted the importance of this investment, stating, “More made-in-Canada solutions mean stronger local economies.” She emphasized that the development of the new wet lab at Providence Care Hospital will play a crucial role in helping life sciences companies research and commercialize their innovations right here at home.
This strategic investment aligns with the government’s broader objective to promote innovation, support economic growth, and enhance the competitiveness of Canada’s life sciences sector on a global scale.
