Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit northern states devastated by recent floods to personally assess the situation, review ongoing relief operations, and assure affected families of the Centre’s support. Officials confirmed on Friday that the Prime Minister’s visit will cover Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, which have been severely impacted by days of relentless rain.
Punjab remains among the hardest hit, with 43 confirmed deaths and three people still missing as of Friday. Districts including Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Ludhiana have reported casualties, while rescue teams continue to evacuate stranded residents and deliver emergency relief.
The Centre has mobilized additional resources, including medical teams from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, to reinforce local hospitals. Doctors and nurses are already on the ground in Punjab and other states to provide urgent care to displaced families. Relief distribution and rehabilitation efforts are being coordinated closely with state administrations to ensure timely support.
Earlier this week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah toured flood-affected areas of Jammu, including the damaged Tawi Bridge at Bikram Chowk and Mangu Chak village. He also chaired a high-level review meeting to assess immediate needs and chart the next phase of response.
Prime Minister Modi, who had previously spoken to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is expected to emphasize both swift relief measures and long-term strategies to counter the growing threat of extreme weather events. His visit aims to reassure citizens that the government remains committed to rebuilding and strengthening flood-affected communities.
