Premier Doug Ford Slams ‘Gouging’ on World Series Tickets as Jays Fans Face Soaring Prices

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his government will look into the issue of inflated resale prices for Toronto Blue Jays World Series tickets, after fans complained of skyrocketing costs just hours after tickets went on sale.

Tickets for Game 1 in Toronto on Friday sold out within minutes on Wednesday, and resale listings soon appeared for several thousand dollars per seat on secondary markets. Ford said the situation is unfair to ordinary fans and accused Ticketmaster of “gouging” the public.

“When one company controls everything, it isn’t fair,” Ford said. “In my opinion, Ticketmaster is gouging people, and we’re going to take a look at it.”

Ford’s comments come amid renewed debate over Ontario’s ticket laws. In 2019, his government repealed a provision that had capped resale prices at 50 per cent above face value, a rule originally designed to limit price surges on major event tickets.

Ticketmaster did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

As excitement builds for the Blue Jays’ first World Series appearance in decades, fans across the province say affordability — not availability — has become the biggest barrier to seeing their team play at home.
